Common questions before you start.
Do food supplements need registration or notification?
Notification. Food supplements are notified to ANVISA under the food regularization rule in force. The establishment is licensed by the local health authority, and the food category defines whether the product follows registration, notification or notice of start of manufacture, which is why classification is the first step.
Does a food company need an AFE?
No. Food establishments are licensed by the local health authority, not by ANVISA. Depending on the product, establishment registration with MAPA may be required.
When should regulatory work on a new food product start?
Before the packaging and the label. The category defines the regulatory pathway, the permitted claims and the labelling requirements; finding that out after the design costs a relaunch.
